Prevention & Management
- Avoid tugging or tension on the tube during movement, dressing, or sleep.
- Educate patient/caregiver on what to do in case of accidental removal:
- Do not attempt to reinsert the tube at home.
- Cover site with sterile gauze and go to the nearest emergency department immediately.
- Keep a medical alert card or bracelet indicating nephrostomy presence.
- Secure tubing properly using reliable fixation device as Nephro-Safe™.
